Rigo Duterte refutes claims of First District Office closure

DAVAO CITY – Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, son of First District Representative Paolo Duterte, refuted accusations by a local candidate claiming that the congressional office has been closed due to the congressman’s absence. Speaking before the crowd at the Barangay 5-A covered court during the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod Party Campaign Rally on April 2, Rigo dismissed the claims, explaining that his father had to leave Davao City for a while for family matters. “My father, Congressman Pulong, had to be there. His father, who is my grandfather, was brought to jail without an arrest warrant. Of course, as a son, he had to go,” Rigo said in a local dialect. Government authorities allegedly arrested Former President Rodrigo Duterte at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on March 11 without an...

Rodriguez exposes GASTPE education contracting program irregularities, seeks House probe

Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez has exposed irregularities in the government-funded education service contracting (ESC) program under the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE). In Resolution No. 2252 filed last March 17, Rodriguez said the ESC program was established to provide financial assistance to students from low-income families to enroll in private schools through school vouchers. He said the voucher, ranging from P18,000 to P22,500, helps cover part of the student’s tuition fees in participating private schools and also covers other related costs, such those for books and other school fees. He said the program requires that students must enroll in participating private high schools, which must be accredited by the Department of...

Statement of Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman on the Latest Israeli Attacks in Gaza

I strongly condemn the latest Israeli attacks and bombings in Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of countless innocent civilians, including women and children. What makes this even more reprehensible is that these brutal assaults were carried out during the Holy Month of Ramadan – a time of peace, reflection and prayer for Muslims worldwide. Despite an ongoing ceasefire, Israel has continued its indiscriminate bombings, showing complete disregard for human life. The world watches in horror as families are wiped out, homes are turned to rubble and the already suffering people of Gaza are subjected to even more terror and devastation. The images coming out of Gaza are unbearable: parents holding their lifeless children, entire families buried under the ruins of their homes,...
